Annemieke graduated in 1983 at the Catholic University Brabant and pursued a PhD in 1989 at the Netherlands Institute for Brain Research in Amsterdam. From then onwards, she worked at Solvay Pharmaceuticals BV and later at a CRO (TRAMARKO) for almost 10 years in total until she founded AUTHOR! Previous positions include: staff member Preclinical Pharmacology, staff member Drug Safety, and Clinical Research Director Phase I; and Medical Writer, Interim Head Biometrics, and Head Medical Services.

Annet graduated in 1993 at the University of Agriculture, Wageningen. After her graduation, she worked at The Netherlands Cancer Institute (Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital), Amsterdam, and was involved in setting-up, databasing, tabulating, and reporting of oncology trials. In 1996, she joined Solvay Pharmaceuticals BV as a SAS® Data Analist. A year later, she became coordinator of the SAS programmers group, and not much later she started her medical writer career. She joined AUTHOR! in 2001.

Daan graduated in 1994 at the University of Agriculture, Wageningen. After his graduation, he worked at Capgemini Nederland BV as technical consultant Peoplesoft and was involved in implementing Peoplesoft ERP solutions at various large renowned Dutch companies. In this function he acquired programming skills and gained both SQL and maintenance experience in Oracle and SQL server. In 2007, he joined AUTHOR! as a SAS Data Analist (certified Advanced Programmer for SAS®).

Tineke Roede-Timmer

Tineke obtained a Masters degree in Biology from the University of Groningen in 1995. She worked 4 years as Ph.D. student at the Department of Medical Genetics, University of Groningen and thereafter 4 years as a Post-doc fellow at the Department of Medical Oncology, University of Groningen. In 2003, she started as Medical Writer at Pharma Bio-Research Group B.V. (currently PRA International), Zuidlaren. In 2005, she joined AUTHOR! as a medical writer.

Anita obtained a Masters degree in Health Sciences from Maastricht University in 1994, and worked for more than 10 years as writer/editor for a medical communications agency (Medunet Europe BV) and as safety associate for a pharmacovigilance consultancy (Vigilex). In 2007, she joined AUTHOR! as a medical writer.

Carolien obtained a Masters degree in Biomedical Science from the Radboud University Nijmegen in 2005 and pursued her PhD in 2009 at the department of General Internal Medicine, UMC St Radboud, Nijmegen. Thereafter, she worked at Synthon BV, Nijmegen, as pharmacovigilance manager and as drug safety associate at Schering-Plough, Houten. In 2010, she started her medical writer career at MSD (formerly Schering-Plough/Organon), Oss, and by the end of the year she joined AUTHOR! as medical writer.

Rolinka started at Solvay Pharmaceuticals in 1988 as a secretary within the Biometrics Department. In 1998 she became coordinator of the Document Production Group, responsible for the appendices to clinical study reports, and for formatting and styling of these reports. In 2007, she became global coordinator of the Technical Assistants, being responsible for defining standards and providing oversight and direction of all assigned activities of the Solvay technical assistants (bookmarking, hyperlinking, completing appendices, checking consistency of study reports). Other tasks included providing technical support for MS Office programs and the document management system, and creation of templates and macro’s in Word. In 2008, she completed two SAS-courses at the SAS Institute. In 2011, she joined AUTHOR! as a Biometrics Assistant.

Tinka Tuinstra

Tinka obtained her Master’s degree in Medical Biology at the University of Groningen in 1995. After obtaining her PhD degree in Medical Science in 2001 at the University of Nijmegen, she worked at Solvay Pharmaceuticals BV (later Abbott Healthcare Products BV) as Group Leader, Study Director and Senior Scientist. She has 10 years of broad experience as pharmacologist in drug development. In 2011, she joined AUTHOR! as a medical writer. Tinka was awarded the Advanced Certificate in Medical Writing of the EMWA Professional Development Programme in 2013.

Wendy obtained a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Health Science from the University of Nijmegen in 2001. After her graduation, she joined Pharma Bio-Research (currently PRA International) as a statistical SAS programmer. After one year she became a biometrician for Phase 1 and IIa trials and continued her work at PRA International for 9 years. She joined AUTHOR! as a SAS Data Analist in June 2011.

Marloes obtained her Masters degree in Biomedical Health Sciences from the Radboud University Nijmegen in 2003. She started her scientific career at the department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion of the Leiden University Medical Center and obtained her PhD degree in 2009. In the same year she started as Medical Adviser in the field of Infectious Diseases and Transplantation Immunology at the pharmaceutical company Novartis Pharma B.V. In 2012, she joined AUTHOR! as a Medical Writer.

Gonnie obtained her MSc in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Amsterdam in 1988. For 3 years she was a statistical consultant for the Agricultural Research Institute in Wageningen. From 1992 onwards she worked at NV Organon, Oss (now MSD) as a Clinical Statistician and Biometrics manager followed by positions with growing responsibility in Clinical Quality, Clinical Trial Management, Regulatory Operations and Operational Excellence in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Gonnie joined AUTHOR! in 2014 as a Medical Writer / Statistician.

Jochem Verstappen close

Jochem Verstappen

Jochem graduated in Biology at the Radboud University Nijmegen in 2001. Subsequently, he worked for nearly three years at a consultancy agency where he wrote reports for private companies and for local and national governments. In 2005, Jochem started his PhD study at the department of Orthodontics and Craniofacial Biology at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre from which he obtained his PhD degree in 2012. In the meantime, he joined Synthon as pharmacovigilance manager in 2010 where he wrote safety reports and was involved in safety monitoring of clinical trials.
In 2012, he joined AUTHOR! as a medical writer. As Jochem showed a broad experience in database management and programming, he was additionally trained in SAS programming and data analysis.

Rob Kessels

Rob obtained a Master’s degree in Methods and Statistics from the University of Utrecht in 2014. After his graduation, he started working as a statistician at Emotional Brain where he worked on several clinical trials, primarily phase two. At Emotional Brain, he has also been writing on a PhD thesis in collaboration with the University of Utrecht. In 2018, Rob joined Author! as a statistician.

Peter obtained his MSc in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Delft in 1981. The first 5 years of his career he worked as a statistician for the Agricultural University in Wageningen, followed by 6 years as statistical consultant in the Pharmaceutical Industry, working for Solvay Pharmaceuticals (now Abbott). Thereafter, Peter developed a managerial career in Clinical Development. In the companies Peter worked for - Solvay, Organon (now MSD), Genzyme (now Sanofi) - he had growing responsibilities, including Statistics & Stats Programming, Data Management, Medical Writing, but also Clinical Operations (Monitoring) and business IT. Peter joined AUTHOR! in November 2013 as director.

Corine obtained a Master’s Degree in Mathematics (with major in Statistics) from the University of Groningen in 1996. After her graduation, Corine worked for Pharma Bio-Research (currently PRA International) as a Biometrician for Phase-I and IIa trials, and continued this position for 3 years. From 1999 she worked for the Trial Coordination Center in 1999 as a Medical Statistician, being involved in (mainly) Phase III clinical trials for several medical and therapeutic areas. In 2004 she joined Xendo B.V. (now QPS LLC) to set up the Data Management and Biostatistics departments, and supported the setup of the departments of Project Management and Medical Writing. Corine has supervised several departments (Data Management, Biostatistics, Medical Writing) during her 11 years at Xendo/QPS. By December 2015 she joined AUTHOR! as a Biostatistics consultant.

Cecile obtained a Master’s degree in Medical Biology from the Radboud University Nijmegen in 1989 and obtained her PhD in 1994 at the department of Human and Animal Physiology, Wageningen University. The first years of her career she worked as a Scientific Fellow and as Freelance Medical Writer. From 1997 onward, Cecile participated as a Senior Medical Writer in R&D projects at NV Organon (later Schering-Plough and now MSD). Since 2011 she broadened her experience as Regulatory Liaison at MSD. With a career of 18 years of experience in drug development and clinical regulatory document writing in pharmaceutical industry, she joined AUTHOR! as a Medical Writer in November 2014.

Luuk graduated in Statistics at the University of Amsterdam in 1995 and has worked as a statistician at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam, Institute of Child Health in London, and HIV Monitoring Foundation (Stichting HIV Monitoring) in Amsterdam. His responsibilities in these roles included the analysis of observational databases and reporting of the results in scientific journals and conferences. In 2015 he joined Janssen Prevention Center in Leiden (part of Johnson & Johnson) and worked in collaboration with Erasmus MC in Rotterdam on studies aimed at prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and estimation of a biological age. Luuk joined AUTHOR! as a statistician in 2018.

Elisabeth Brower

Liz obtained her Masters degree in Biomedical Sciences from Leiden University in 2012. She started her writing career while still a student, working as a freelance popular science and medical writer for various clients, including local newspapers and the pharmaceutical industry. In 2014, she became a Medical Writer, specializing in submissions, at the pharmaceutical company Novartis Vaccines (later GlaxoSmith-Kline Vaccines). In 2016, she joined AUTHOR! as a Medical Writer. Liz is bilingual, English and Dutch.

Just graduated in Clinical and Neuropsychology at the University of Groningen in 2003, after which he started a PhD study, also at the University of Groningen. In 2009 he started working as a Biostatistician, first at Xendo B.V. and later at QPS LLC. During his work for Xendo and QPS he worked on many clinical trials, both early and late phase. He worked primarily as a Statistician, but also performed other services while working there, for example Data Management and Non-compartmental Pharmacokinetics. In June 2016, Just joined Author! as a Biostatistician.

Anneke obtained her Master’s degree in Medical Biology with honors at the Free University of Amsterdam in 1981. She started her career in the pharmaceutical industry at Duphar BV, which later became Solvay Pharmaceuticals BV and then Abbott Healthcare Products BV, as Clinical Research Associate. Initially she was involved in Phase I trials of new chemical entities. In her latest function as Clinical Director in the Clinical Pharmacology department she was involved in global life cycle and branded generics drug development. She designed, directed and reported phase I trials and provided input in regulatory submissions. After having spent more than 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry, she joined Author! in August 2016 as medical writer.

Eva graduated in Clinical Psychology at the University of Groningen in 2005. From 2006 until 2009 she worked at Province Groningen as Functional Application Manager and Employee Statistical Information. The following 2 years she worked as a Researcher at the University of Groningen. In 2012 Eva started working as a Medical Writer and Clinical Data Manager at QPS LLC. At QPS she was involved in early and late phase clinical trials for several therapeutic areas. In September 2016 Eva joined AUTHOR! as Data Analyst and Data Manager.

Joan obtained a MSc Degree in Medical Biology from the Free University of Amsterdam in 1996.In the first 3 years of her career she worked at Maripharm, as quality assurance manager. In 2000, she joined the International Antiviral Therapy and Evaluation Center (IATEC) to set up the Data Management Department. From 2004-2012 she worked at Genzyme (now a Sanofi Company), holding several positions within the Data Management department, the latest being Associate Director of Data Management. From 2012-2014 she worked at Covance as Senior Manager of Data Management. A sabbatical leave followed from 2015-2017. After a short period, working as team leader of Data Processing at Center for Human Drug Research (CHDR), Joan joined AUTHOR! as a Biometrics Project Manager in November 2017.

Tjeerd graduated from the University of Amsterdam in 1986 as a medical biologist. He completed his PhD studies in 1991 at the Jan van Breemen Institute for Rheumatology and Rehabilitation, with a thesis entitled “Loading of anatomically intact articular cartilage in vitro”. He subsequently joined the pharmaceutical company Organon, initially as a Scientific Editor at Regulatory Affairs, but from 1995 onwards at the Clinical Development Department as a clinical research project manager, being responsible for the clinical development of new contraceptive products. From 2005 until the discontinuation of research activities by Organon’s successor Merck in 2012, he was the Clinical Group Director Gynecology. Tjeerd joined AUTHOR! in May 2018.

Petra obtained her Master’s degree in Medical Biology at the Vrije Universiteit (VU), Amsterdam in 1994. After her graduation, she worked for 5 years as PhD student at the Department of Hematology of the VU University Medical Center (VUmc), after which she continued her career as Clinical Data Associate and Medical Writer at the CRO Kendle International BV. From 2001 till 2006 Petra worked as Medical Affairs Officer and Drug Safety Officer at TEVA Pharmachemie BV. From 2006 till 2018, she worked for Synthon BV, successively as Regulatory Affairs Project manager (1 year), Pharmacovigilance Manager (3 years) and Clinical R&D Project Leader (8 years). Petra joined AUTHOR! as a Medical Writer in July 2018.

Ankie obtained her Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at the Utrecht University in 2013. She started her scientific career at the department of Biochemistry of the Maastricht University, where she obtained her PhD degree in Cell Biochemistry of Thrombosis and Haemostasis in 2018. She joined AUTHOR! as a Medical Writer in September 2018.


A short history

In 1998, AUTHOR! was originally founded as a CRO dedicated to medical writing. A couple of years later a move was made towards full data analysis and reporting services.

In 2018, we have grown to a staff of 25 experienced and dedicated data analysts and medical writers. Our aim is for further expansion to meet our clients' increasing demands.

Key values at AUTHOR! are open communication, flexibility, and commitment, with a close eye on target timelines.
